Oiled deck...
we have just used Cabots decking oil ( jarrah ) on a well weathered front deck that we sanded back first. i would like to know if we could achieve a glossier finish and apply varnish over the top or would there be a reaction of the two together?? thanks

One or the other, and varnish = pooling water and people breaking their necks when its wet.

Also, most varnishes are not designed to walk on - too soft. One exception is exterior or marine polyurethane (estapol).
And all clear finishes eventually break down from the effects of UV. Exterior/marine stuff just lasts a little longer. Thus you will commit yourself to perpetual maintenence.
Polyurethane is quite hard and difficult to remove prior to recoating - extremely difficult if your deck is micro-grooved.
I suggest that you are stuck with decking oil until it is time to re-do the finish.
