oops ... lost hand brace spring
I have borrowed a friends brace and as a thankyou I thought i'd clean and sharpen it before using it & returning it. I was holding the jaws and clumsily dropped it & it bounced away from me.
The spring has come loose & bounced away ... somewhere ... anywhere. Possibly into the massive pile of shavings from the progress on my pine workbench top.
Are these springs something I can buy somewhere ? Does anyone in Brissy have some spare i can have ? I only received the brace today so I have some time before I have to return it but I'd like to return in better (and complete) condition than which i was given it.

I don't know where you would get a spring from - probably nowhere unfortunately. But if you do find out, let me know as I have just snapped one of my braces jaws in two (while holding a hex-bit) and I wouldn't mind getting some new jaws.
One possible solution that I've used in similar circumstances when losing small screws/other important metal bits, is to get one of the magnetic knife holders from IKEA or similar, attach it to the back of a broom and gently "sweep" the area where you think it may have gone. I've had some major successes putting tools back together using this method.

sounds like dragging a magnet thru the shavings is on the cards.
Or vaccy the lot and then drag the magnet it thru the pile you get.

i think we have a magnetic knife holder thingy from IKEA that we've never used. Great idea Michael !
Plan B will be the vacuum option fly.
Cheers guys. I have some hope after all perhaps.

I know it's a bit late now, but when working on things with springs, slip a large clear plastic bag over it & your hands. That way, when (not if) the springs take off, they will be restricted in their natural desire to travel to far off places.
