Here are some pics of both the boards.
they are both also 2400mm long, so to show grain pics had to be taken in parts.

there is also a pic of small slab with natural edge.

    Hi Curly
do you want your table to have a natural edge or to have sawn edges?
how wide is the school's jointer and thicknesser?
do you have the skill, tools and time to flatten and square the top by hand?

your answers will inform some of the responses you get.
    regards from Alberta, Canada

    Hi Ian,
i have already sawn the boards to take off the natural edge, so sawn edges.
at school wodont have a very wide thicknesser, but there is a business in the city i live in (Wagga Wagga) that has the equipment i need to sand after joining.
We have 7 weeks left to finish our project, but joining the top will be the last step i need to take before finishing, so im nearly done.

Also, would anybody be able to recommend any finishes they have previously used with Redgum?

In that case, I suggest you rip the wide board somewhere near the middle, and insert the 400mm board

go for the best grain match you can get

and joint and thickness the boards before you do the glue up
doing so will make life much easier when it comes to flatteninga nd finishing the top
