Default Paraffin Wax - Where to buy in ~20kg?

I am on the hunt for some Paraffin wax in a 20-25kg block. I intend on making some machinist wax. I have not had any luck locating any paraffin wax cheap enough to make it worth using for test pieces (saves using Aluminum). I am based in Tasmania so I need shipping or a local supplier. The usual online suspects tend to be $10kg when delivery is factored in which makes it uneconomical to use for this purpose. I have also tried Bunnings and Mitre 10 without any luck.

Any leads on either local suppliers or suppliers with shipping arrangements?

Neither of my suggestions are located in Tassie, but it may be worth your while to send Ubeaut a PM, I'm pretty sure he uses Paraffin Wax as one of his raw materials.

    See this old thread

The other suggestion is Ace Chemicals in SA.

Failing those, what about people that supply candle makers, I'm sure they would be able to supply Paraffin Wax in larger quantities.

    A Google search found this:

Decades ago I used to purchase 20-30kg at time for casting moulds. Used to come in 5kg blocks. Can't recall company but was one of the petroleum agents attached to the refineries in Hamilton/Pinkenba in Bris. Later when I played with candle making it was still a cheaper source than hobby wholesaler options.

Ask your local agent if no other suggestion pan out.

I've seen it in Eckersleys (art suppliers) in NSW. Don't know if they're in your area, but you should be able to find supplier near you.

These peopel are really good to deal with, they are at Galston. I bought 20kg of Parrafin from them a while ago.

Thanks Big Shed and others for the suggestions. I have sent Ubeaut a PM and also sent an email out to Australian Wax Co. Ideally I would find a local supplier, but I am coming up short on this. I have even tried the local petroleum suppliers, who have said they had it 5 years ago but none since. I was hopeful someone on here would know of a supplier in Tasmania.

Sorry variant, I thought I read you where in Sydney. The business I linked to do post wax. Cost me 12 bucks to get 5kg of beeswax posted from Sydney to Bathurst.

I've got a block that I bought about 4 years ago and haven't used, I could be convinced to sell. Let me know if you are local and interested?

I am now the proud new owner of 25kg of Paraffin wax. A big thanks goes out to Kev for allowing me to buy his 25kg (at a very reasonable price). Thanks Kev!

    Default paraffin wax source

Hi Variant 22. I suggest you give Island Special Timbers in Tassie a call. Chris Emmett is your contact; they are on the ww thing. They use tons of the stuff to coat their turning blanks. I know it comes from one of the local fuel distributors but I don't know which one. Cheers Old Pete

Thanks Old Pete for the note on Island Special Timbers. I will no doubt need some more wax at some point so this is very handy.
