    Default Where to get paua for inlays?

    I had a look on the CWS website for paua shell pieces but no luck - does anyone know where to source paua?

    You'll have better luck searching for abalone here in Aus. I did a quick search and found this site.

    If you are not afraid of a bit of elbow grease, then find a Abalone processor and buy the shell take it home and clean it ( ants will assist ) much cheaper than buying it already cleaned.

    Open Google in NZ and search for Paua shells for sale. Plenty there.

    Only guessing but having it posted could be a problem then bio security could be another. My wife has polished abalone and comes up well. Only tourists wouldnt know the difference.

    Sure! They're very similar in appearance. If they're advertised online, postal delivery would be fine. They're only dry shells. I wouldn't think biosecurity would be a risk but that could always be checked with AQIS.

    Put a wanted paua notice in the Wanted thread of the Market Place,I' know there are kiwi's that use this forum ,they might have some or put you onto some.

    Some have been used as ash trays for cigarette butts ,there was plenty around last time we visited NZ,

    Colourwise, abs are a pale imitation of a paua.
