I was looking for something different but this is something like a gimbal mounted router, although here being used at a fixed angle.

As Bob mentioned there is potential for uncontrolled cutting especially on the first cut, a two fluted cutter will give the most problems with one flute cutting against the swing and then as the other flute takes a cut it will be tending to dig into the wood and will be akin to routing in the wrong direction, a spiral three fluted cutter should give far less problems in this regard.
Also as mentioned I would make the radius larger than the expected sphere size so the sphere sits on the edge only.
How would a pantograph style of setup go? I'm thinking of the Woodgears guy and his setup he made.

Radius needs to be smaller for the sphered to sit on the edge.

It has been an interesting discussion at the very least.
