Thread: Picture Framing Question

Almost all materials/tools required for picture framing are readily available to purchase. Several framing shops in our area will cut the mat on their computer-controlled cutter to dimensions you specify, also cut/supply the 2mm glass and foamcore. This gives the option of making up your own frames and completing the assembly. Hint - those Dyson handheld vacs are great for removing all traces of dust from glass and artwork before mating everything up.

However.....if you only ever intend to frame one thing, it's definitely cheaper to give your homemade frame to the framing shop, and have them do the rest.

No money in picture framing these days, which is why I haven't worked at it for years now

I conceived a solution to my problem, I cut and glued a 6 x 12 mm strips that were glued to the inside back edge of the frame, this gave me 6mm of material to drive my pins under. Combined with compression of the backing board it worked a treat with no blow out. This way I have the mass without the frame being overly thick.
