Default Picture hooks in plasterboard - Everhang - a BIG shout out

I've hung a LOT of picture hooks in my time, but I've never felt compelled to actually tell other people about them or do any sort of writeup!

These, however, completely TAKE THE CAKE.

Everhang Plasterboard Picture Hanging Screws - 10 Pack | Bunnings Warehouse

Everhang, packs of 10 for $5 - They'll do 10kg, or so its claimed.

NEVER have I had a satisfactory result with any other plasterboard plug. They aren't bad, but they aren't great. They are either a messy install, need pre-drilling, mash the edges or simply crumble crappy board.

THESE however - perfect. Absolutely perfect. They have a lovely sharp point, an incrementally increasing diameter on both the shaft and thread, plus they are attractive.

They installed so easily that I thought the first was a fluke. Second - perfect. Third - perfect.

Seriously impressed. If you need to hang a picture in plasterboard, these things are bloody excellent.

(Admin - if this should go in another sub, please feel free to move it. I couldn't find a "recommendation" sub)

Just a variation of wallmates, capacity depends on the location of the fixing

    Not quite wallmates.

These are much smaller, more refined.

Ive used Wallmates and think they are pretty good, but they never sit entirely flat with the board unless you give them that last little bit of over-tightening. This risks fracturing the gyprock.

These seemed to sink themselves, pulled in tight and finished solid.

I felt for The Ordinary Bloke wanting to put up a few pictures in a rental that it gave a high-certainty result and looks nice too.

I'm hardly a professional gyprocker, but Ive put up an absolute ton of the stuff, repaired even more, fixed many others f-ups and did el-shmicko paint jobs.

I don't know mates. I've never tried to hang a picture that weighed more than 5 Kg. I've always used the hook that held the nail at 45° to the wall. I would always put a bit of saliva on the nail and a small square of Scotch tape on the wall.

The saliva tends to cause the nail to chemically bond with the gypsum in the wall board and the tape make later removal easier. (Just twist until the nail is free. Then a gentle pull and the nail is removed.)

If you use a bit of PVA on the back and along the thread with those fasteners WP they hold even better.

    cheers, Ian
