    Default pine mould problem.

Got any ideas for removing it ?

at work today I'm guessing the boss will have me make some japanese style sliders. (made with western machinery. western joints. not really japanese at all I suppose.just the look the client wants)

made out of pine. Think its hoop.

But its covered in mould. I cross cut a bit of it last week, and this green moulds running all the way through in parts. Its going to be there no matter how much I try and thickness it out.

Looks horrible, and the customer wants the doors pale looking, so its going to stick out like dogs nuts, but the boss says , too bad, thats all the timber he has.

Hoping somebody new of something I could apply to the doors. Bleach ? don't know.....that will remove it before it hits the spray booth.

Once you have the mould, it is a bugger to get rid if it.
The trick was to treat the timber before it got the mould.

I have a bloke cutting up Hoop Pine at my place at present.
They are treating it with Hylite 80 from http://www.osmose.com.au/
    Look under products.
It is $600 for 20L but that will make up 4000L of mixture which works out at about 15c/L mixed.

Osmose sell other timber treatments too so have a look around at their site.
    Cliff.

Thanks Cliff. I'll keep that in mind should I ever buy some.

Yeah, mould spores are usually already in the timber. Best to disinfect asap. 'Bluestain's' the term. I turned a hoop pine vase form spoiled by it.

Or let the spores rip for some spalting, but that's chancy. Not heard of it with hoop pine but I don't know much.

Too true. Hits all the araucarias and some other soft timbers, like radiata, mango, jacaranda. You can try bleaching after you dress it (with STRONG bleach), but that has its own problems and looks pretty ordinary.

Even if you plane past the offending color the mycelium (mold roots for lack of a better comparison) may go much deeper. They are often microscopic.
Heat may be the best solution.

There are chemicals that will kill mold such as Sporcidin and chlorine but treatment may not penetrate entirely. So that re-occurrence may be dependant on humidity.
