Pity to bust it up..but what choice do I have?
My wife and I have upgraded our Queen size bed for a King size and moved the Queen into the spare room BUT the solid timber bed head, bed end & surround make it too big for the room. We removed the head, end & surround and I was deciding whether to sell it.
It is a nice bed set but it looks like the price I could get for the set is WAY lower than the value of the Black Bean timber that it is made of.
Have any others had to make the choice of breaking up a perfectly nice piece of furniture for the timber...it seems a waste but what else to do
CORRECTION: Timber appears to be Cedar according to bottom of Bedhead NOT Black Bean...it does have the weight of Cedar...MY BAD

Does sound a fair judgement to make. If the price your likely to get is less value than the timber used to make it. I would be salvaging the timber.

Could you add on a bench seat to it and then sell them (or use them)?

Good thought FF,
I may be able to make the end into 2 sides and create a Day Bed

You are right burraboy...Cedar written on the underside the bedhead. We have had it a long time but I always assumed it was Blackbean.

I had a problem that was similar. My parents old furniture, beautiful curved front wardrobes etc and no one wanted them and we have built ins and small rooms. I reluctantly broke it up as I had no choice. Since then I have got over the sentimental aspect as I have had to do similar things quite a few times.

It will be such a shame to break it up. Sell it cheap to friends or give it away to relatives but please do waste it. Just think about how much good timber you need to make a bed like that. Do it for planet earth.

Just curious how you would go about recycling timber units stained or finished. Can you bring it back to its original glory with stripper? Or jut make furniture as is with the ore finished timber?
