Which Planing/Surfacing router bit?
Hi all,
Looking for recommendations on which planing/surfacing router bit to buy? I’ll be using a router sled.
Cheers Matt

I've used their larger 4-flute version on the CNC at my old work, it does quite a nice job. Aim for a 12-14k rpm router speed.

I have that 3 flute bit works really well. It seems to work really well at full speed on my router (makita 1/2" 2100w variable speed, cant remember model number) but I often use it at a slower speed as I use an extension a lot of the time. When used slower you really need keep the router moving to prevent burning.

I’ve used a TSS 13 1/2” in a Triton MOF001. It’s cheaper but doesn’t have replaceable blades. As Elan said, drop your speed to around 12K to 14K

I use this 6-flute surface planer in a Triton MOF001 with great results too. Beautiful finish on some extremely old dry eucalypt - maybe red gum.

I've got the same Carb i Tool 6 flute (TSS 13 1/2) that Lappa and lovetoride have. Does a great job in a TRA001 at speed 3.
Timbecon have their version on sale at the moment. I have a few Torquata bits and they seem pretty good. From memory the TSS 13 1/2 is around $80.
