Also checkout the frontline panel clamps, Australian made too
FrontLine Engineering
Stu did a review on them :
Episode 52 Frontline Interlocking Clamp « Stu's Shed
I havent used the plano system, but i doubt they'd be as heavy duty as the frontlines.
I glued up a workbench top for a friend last weekend, 16x 65x45mm vic ash boards handled them like they were nothing The bench top is 65mm thick, it gives you and idea how beefy the clamps are...

PLANO GLUE PRESS, love it, Stands against the wall. Takes up next to no room. Doesn't tie up bench space, so you can get on to other things. Great for production work. Accurate machining ensures accurate results with less clean up and adjustment.
I have the 1250 set. 2 metres of rail and four clamps. Should have bought 2 more and I probably will, along with another 2 metres and 6 of the 1500 clamps.
The 1250 doesn't really do 1250. 1200 is a big push.
I could post a photo if you like.
Yeh, you might gather that I am satisfied. Expensive, but I reckon you get what you pay for. There ain't no devil, it's just god when he's drunk!!

I have the frontline clamps and don't know a lot about Plano but they look similar in principle but being wall mounted only.
The frontline are industrial quality and made of (very) heavy extruded aluminum. In operation they apply vertical clamping pressure to the boards first before applying side pressure. This has obvious advantages in obtaining flat glue ups but it is also handy afterwards. For example, you can release the side pressure after the glue is dry, but keep the vertical clamping pressure applied until the panel is ready to be used.
Both the Plano and frontline allow you to do full panel glue-ups without having to use biscuits or dominoes for alignment, or just joining a couple of boards at a time. They do however, require all the boards to be the same thickness for best results, but that isn't difficult to achieve and i think it is it is best practice on all glue ups anyway.
They are expensive to be sure, but I look at this as a lifetime investment - and am thankful each time I do a panel glue-up.

assembly of panel max xl glue press
Purchased the Panel Max XL Glue Press but the instructions for assembly are horrible. We have the wood mounted on the wall exactly as specified but can't figure out how to attach the pieces of the glue press as they describe. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Tony's not very good at welcoming new members! So welcome.
Plano clamps come with a top rail which is basically an aluminium channel about 2 inches wide and a metre long. The channel is screwed horizontally to the top timber beam on the wall. The plastic top clamp mounts are screwed to the top of the rear clamp members and the plastic mounts slide in the aluminium channel. The bottom of the clamps are not attached to the bottom timber member, the timber is just used as a support.
There are some quite good videos on youtube that you might find useful. Note that the stabilising foot that is fitted to the bottom of the clamping members is fitted to the front (opening) side of the clamp not the rear (fixed) side.

You'd think that in 9-plus years they'd create better directions. Apparently not...
