    Default Mounting drill press table

    Hi everyone,

Those who have a drill press table, could you tell me how you went about mounting your drill press table onto the work table of your drill press?

    Cheers
    Sam

    Hi Termite,

Just wanted to know how you used nuts and bolts. The way Barry_White did is one way to do it. BY the way, thanks for the link Barry_White.

    Cheers

I suppose it also depends on what sort of drill press table you have. I mean, does it have slots in it to take bolts or not ?

The simplest way I reakon if its got slots in it, is to attach the table with carriage bolts, so you can easily tighten it up with just one wrench. The bolts head being in the slot or stuck in the table top so it won't spin.
The bolt/head in the top sitting in a countersink hole, that you can drill out first with a regular flat bit....etc. So it doesn't foul on anything your drilling.

Barry's method is probably better, but if the drill press table hasn't got slots, I would just drill some through the steel. Say a few 1/4" holes. Ruining the origional look of the table I guess. But so what ? ...At least there isn't any chance of that wooden table moving once you bolt it on. Thats what I'd do anyway.

And, I don't know about other drill presses. But with the cheap carpatec version I have the table can flex a little when under pressure from the chuck while drilling sometimes. So to fix that just use one of those common car jacks. Just tighten it prior to drilling between the bottom of the drill press table and the stand. ......if you get my drift.

    Hope this helps. Goodluck.

    Red face

    Sam,
I need to get my accessory table on & off the drill press quickly so I cut out some cleats to match the outside edge of my (round) castiron table and glued them to the underneath of the wooden one, so that it slips over the cast iron like a cap. So that it doesn't rotate with the torque of the drill, I fixed a small 'key' of wood which fits into one of the radial slots of the iron table.
No bolts are needed, the pressure of the drill feed holds it down. There are some photos of it in an old thread from Feb. I haven't worked out how to insert fancy thread links like Barry yet, but a search on 'drillpress table' would find it.
    cheers,
    Graeme

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'd like to have a quick changeover of the table as well. That was one of the reason why I wanted find out what others did. By the way, the table has slots on it. I'll do a quick search fo the forum as well.

    Cheers
