    Default plans/designs/ideas for storage cupboards

    Hi All

After completing a pergola and deck, its time to move onto the next project - increasing storage space in my house.

My garage is 1.5 times the width of your average single garage, so with that extra width, i want to put some cupboards along the side wall. The wall is between the garage and the house - it is best described as your average internal wall - plastered both sides, timber frame in the middle. it has a door at one end (into the house) and a door beside it leading out to the yard (this door is on the rear garage wall, and rests against the side wall (where i plan on putting the cupboards) when the door is open. all that said - the cupboards wont be able to go from one end of the wall to the other, but i want them to go from the door into the house, all the way along the wall to where the outside door swings (see attached pic - the proposed cupboards are in red).

basically i want them to look built in, so i figure using some cheap non structural pine from the local bunnings i need to make some framework, screw that to the existing wall (through the plaster?) and then plaster up the framework. add some architraves and some doors (door jambs?) and some shelving inside the cupboards and then a coat of paint. sounds simple.

id like the cupboards to go to ceiling, however the top shelves (the ones above the doors) would be doorless.

but i have no idea how to go about all of this! if anyone would like to offer advice and ideas on how to make up the framework etc, it would be most appreciated.

    Cheers, and thanks

you could try laminate boards for the cupboards, like what kitchens are made form, then you wouldn't need alot of framing, bunnings sell it in sheets of various sizes, or have a look around for an old kitchen, could also look at http://www.flatpax.com, bunnings sell it too

so this became the project that took a long time to happen!

I finally started building the cupboards in the garage 3 weeks ago, as we are getting a new puppy and the minister of finance and treasury wants to use the garage as a 'puppy room'. This means we need somewhere to safely store all the things in the garage, away from puppy teeth!

I went with my original idea. I looked around at flatpak and ready assembled kitchen pantry type cupboards, but most were only 400mm deep, and as I would need two, at around $200 each i thought i could make better use of the space i had with $400 worth of timber framing, melamine panels, plaster and internal doors!

They are 600mm deep, around 600mm between each shelf, 2800mm wide and 2200 high. plenty of cupboard space, i think!
