Hey mighty_stanks, how did you get on with your planter box?
Any progress.

I got a bit of a reprieve to do some paying work. That's all finished now so I started to get the nudge from the boss. "Remember that herb garden you were going to build for me?"

So I got into it.
I already had a pre-defined bed to use. Here's what I started with.

By the time I'd dug out all the old roots, rocks, pebbles and associated garbage I'd hit the clay, and found my water main.
Attachment 188670
I used 90x19 Red Forest Timber decking from Bunnies and just butt joined them.
Attachment 188671
Had to cut one on the bandsaw to sit flat on the concrete, then drilled some plugs into the wall to hold it.
Attachment 188672
I used some 90x19 Cypress offcuts to the uprights. I had originally planned to go two boards high, but after digging out what was there I realised this was overkill.
Attachment 188673
A bracket secured it to the house with more plugs.
Attachment 188674
Some aluminium angle on the corners hid the ugly butt joins. It's just glued on with some builders adhesive.
Attachment 188675
Some more cypress around the top like a frame, fastened with screws straight down into the timber below, with some plugs to hide the screw heads.
Attachment 188676
Finally, some decking finish and we're done.

All that's left is to fill it with some soil. A bit of luck there. The amount I need for this box is 1/2 cubic metre. My 5x3 box trailer happens to hold exactly 1/2 cubic metre. Gee, I planned that well.

Cheers
Jim
