Where to get good ply...
Gidday folks.
A question about furniture grade ply ( 2 A grade faces).
Went into a big name ply supplier in BrizVegas today looking for the above ply in 9mm, in 8x4 sheets.
Stuff me mushrooms, $80-$90 each, top of the range marine ply.
Surely there must be cheaper good stuff around.
I know they had a slightly cheaper hoop pine alternative but not really up to scratch grade wise, cos it is going with blackwood framing.
What does everyone else use for panels in frame and panel, shelves etc, apart from solid timber.
Cheers blokes.

For panels, I usually go for some ply or mdf and veneer it myself - or get it veneered professionally. This means I can use something very special and exotic at low cost - dollars and environmental.

Hi Glen,
Sounds about the right price I use Imported Finnish Birch 9mm is 9 ply.
Very workable and clean AA both sides. How much of it do you need?
I get mine from DMK at Bigger Waters I believe Mr Plywood also carry it.
As far as panels go yep either solid for a floating panel or ply for fixed or floating.
How big are the panels?
Do you have the matching Veneer?
Cheers

Ya well, ifn it's $90, so be it.
Guess I had better start saving some pennies to buy a band saw to cut my own veneers.
Cheers for the replies.
