Head to a timber yard and ask for packing sheets. Most are willing to do a good deal.

Could I be a complete newbie and ask what a packing sheet is please? I understand they're used to pack things, but typically, what material, size and thickness are they please?

correct title is cover sheet, when a flitch of timber esp large sheets arrives there are these cover/packing sheets to sacrifice damage to the good stuff.

    Tonto,
I do not know your geography that well. My first thought was to find a business that imports a lot of product from overseas. Any crates that are torn apart may suit your needs. My band saw came in a crate and the plywood (6mm) was repurposed for a variety shop projects.
