Can I have a poll?
Can any tablesaw user please respond to this thread stating if it essential that the table slots are exactly parallel to the saw blade.
Yes or no without any qualification or reference to any manufacturer would be helpful and avoiding a manufacturer seeking any redress.
Slots parallel should be ..............Yes.woody U.K.

Yes. Any deviation would make it useless for mitres and if the deviation were towards the blade, the stock would be forced against the rear of the blade potentially posing significant risk to the operator.

Yes.
If it is not parallel you cannot use the mitre gauge or a crosscut sled or any other jig that would use the slot.

Remembers it only rips with the tips & face of the "teeth", I set mine up the way I was taught to set up ripsaws when I first started working, positive lead away from the gauge.
Bigger the saw the more the "lead", hence on my little shed saw 305mm=2-4 thou, the set can play more havoc with accuracy than this little safety margin can.Bruce C.

Yes. Has to be.
If not, a slight deviation outward as e.mac states is OK but definitely not the other way. I think even in the old Triton video, George says something about setting the fence slightly wider at the tail end but that is the fence setting and the slots on a TS are a different matter. (I think )If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

I would have thought that offset relates to the rip fence rather than to mitre slots.
If the blade is not parallel with the slot then any jig guided by the slot will move towards or away from the blade as it travels from the front to the back of the saw.
I voted yes.
It only takes one drink to get me loaded. Trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or fourteenth.

I just voted no, due to the fact that I miss took what you mean't by table slots.
I assumed you mean't the slot that the blade protrudes up through the table.
This is probably due to not having a contractor type saw, but a Triton. Hence I tend to refer to what is being called slots, as tracks.Greatest Movie Quote Ever: "Its good to be the king!"____________________________

tableslots and blade MUST be parallel. if not mitres will be out, jigs wont work and accuracy will be compromised all over.
The fence is another matter. it may be a bit wider on the side behind the blade to avoid jamming and kickback, especially when crosscutting wide pieces.
