I tried Reece before posting this thread. They wanted $90/6m. I wasn't even sure that what they were selling was what I wanted. What was the thread type, NPT?

I got mine many years ago but I can’t remember how much I paid. $90 for 6m sounds about right. Just remember Bunnings sell them around $25m/m.

I am sure it is the type you need. Ask them to cut mine into 3m lengths. If you want 2m then you will have 1 length without thread. But it is easy to get it threaded.

BTW Pony clamps are great clamps. I also bought 2 when I was in the US.

    Default clamp pipe

McJings sell pipes for these clamps, I bought some 1.5m lengths threaded both ends from a mining supplies company in Brisbane, they were happy to do a credit card for a few of these. Takes a bit of ringing around though.

    Hello Mick,

    The threads are 3/4" BSP.

I just use Galv pipe with my Pony's (Ponies? )

I'll second the recommendation for McJings, they also sell the gadget for threading the pipe, comes in a kit with dies for 1/2" and 3/4" pipe. This can be handy if the pipe you get is only threaded on one end.

Also pick up some pipe joiners from the plumbing supply place (or Bunnies I suppose) so you can make looong pipes for clamping bread board ends on tables etc.

If you get your own pipe threader, you can 'salvage' lengths of pipe that seem to get left out for council cleanups - the source of a couple of my pipes.

Default Straight from the horses mouth!

Received an email from the manufacturer today(Adjustable Clamp Company) in the USA. The recommended Outside diameter of the pipe is 1"(25.4mm) and the thread is 3/4-14 TPI NPT Standard. No mention of the wall thickness but I think the thicker the better to prevent the bar flexing when clamping. 1" (4mm wall thickness) pipe is available from Ian Stansfield-Smith Pty Ltd in Hallam for $25 per 6m length($4/mtr). I just need to confirm the minimum wall thickness as the thread diameter is smaller than the O.D. on the pipe. And source a thread cutter! This was suppose to be a cheaper alternative to buying a heap of Besse clamps!!

    Well, there you go!

Luckily they (NPT & BSP in 3/4") share the same tpi.

Screwing clamps together, we are not going to notice the 5 degree difference in thread form.

Butchery I hear the purists say!

My 3/4" pipe came gratis, so is perfect for me.

Ordered a 3/4" NPT Threading tool from MCJings. The one they sent was a BSPT thread. After ringing them I was informed they do not sell a NPT threading tool even though that is what was on the description on their web site! I can get it from the US but the shipping is a killer. Anyone got a contact for a cheap 3/4" NPT threading tool?

Ordered a 3/4" NPT threading tool from the USA via Ebay. It was second hand but worked well and arrived in less than a week ! Even with the cost of freight it still worked out cheaper than buying one locally.
