Learnt something there zen, had a crack at it.

Scanned with Paperport & HP Deskscan (old scanner), at 600dpi, edited with MS Photo Editor, changed resolution in Properties to 100dpi (40 dots/cm), resized to (hopefully) fit on screen at 100% & saved with adjustments to compression to get under 100K.

How do these look? Any further tips welcome, gives me the irrits trying to get a decent scanned image or dig. cam photo to look half reasonable under 100K.

Way better: thanks Sean. The second coffin must be the outer one: looks much bigger and different design and decoration. I wonder what the plaque on top says...

Try SmallImage or JpegCompress to get big photos (i.e. several hundred pixels on edge) down to below 100kB.

Thanks Zen, will give it a crack when time permits.

Does the resultant image from these programs end up better than, say, adjusting the compression when saving in Irfanview or MS Photo Editor.

Hey Scooter just go to the site URL i posted earlier. It has really good pictures of the external and external of the first coffin. BTW for those who don't know the pope is buried in 3 caskets. The first simple one, the second, hermetically sealed zinc to slow decomposition and the ornate outer coffin.
    Cheers

Why? Was there something disgraceful about the manner in which he lived his life?

Forget theism. On what basis could you possibly say that.

Its not funny, witty or anything other than a disgraceful comment by yourself.:mad::mad::mad:

Could you imagine the reaction if you said this about a digger (even one who led a shameful life).

Its not right even for an athiest.

Shedhand, I'd hazard a reasonable guess that "bud davis" in the US is making his version of the "pope's coffin", 'tis not the real thing, inside or out.

I remember being very impressed with the workmanship on the Popes coffin when I watched the funeral on TV.

Regarding scanning and resizing you need 300 pixels per inch for magazine quality. However resizing is something to be done carefully because you are throwing information away. In photoshop make sure you select bicubic resampling from the image size control panel.

I would check that the calibrator and your monitor are calibrated also. The other thing that will have a big effect is the colour space you use likely the default is sRGB. If you change it to Adobe 1998 RGB you will get better colour and tonality because it is a bigger colour space. After you do whatever sharpening exposure adjustments etc you want to do change it to sRGB before posting it here. Posting it across the web means that sRGB is more than big enough. 100ppi is plenty for showing stuff on the web as most monitors are less than that ratings will depend on peoples individual monitor.

Thanks Stud for the tips, bit over my head tho' mate.

I'm pretty restricted in the programs I can manipulate the graphics in, coupled with pretty limited (Oh, really? ) knowledge of this sort of stuff anyway.

    Thanks for your response.............cheers..............Sean

    Default Grow some skin guys

    Hi

Well I think its time a few people grew some skin.

There seems to be an awful lot of people who seem to be able to be offended by an awful lot lately. Seems to be a little being offended for offendance sake so to speak.

I took that he meant that seeing as they are going into the ground to rot away is a bit of a waste of some really good work. I have always felt it strange that we arent buried in a cardboard box. I think jesus wouldnt have wanted an ornate coffin.

Nothing he said directly denigrated the pope, only if you took it that way.

The popes spirit, by the teachings of the bible, was long gone. It was just his body left, his vehicle through life, so I dont think he would be aggrieved.

If you took it as being that he thought the pope was a "waste" so to speak then argue why he is wrong. Dont take the "oh I am so upset that is disgraceful, god help us" line (Tongue firmly in cheek)

What is strange is that he gets flamed for that and on another post people are saying they would be happy to murder Nguyen in Singapore.
I think the second is worst than the first and hardly in the spirit of any religion.

So how about we stop looking to be upset and just live life.

And I am a person of faith.

I dont agree that he was saying it in that way. If he was, he has had every opportunity to say so. Then I would apologise.

As gumby pointed out, he signed off, the Athiest. For what purpose if not to show his disdain for the person he considered the dovetails wasted on. He could have said that dovetails are a waste on a coffin if that was his intention.

Most of what you say I agree with but not on the attitude of the poster.

Honestly, I would be just as upset if he said that about any decent person. My attitude has nothing to do with religion. I know that others agree with me.

I dont think Im thin skinned. I just didn't like what I read.

I'm with Boban here. I too took it as being a waste on the pope, and I am most certainly not a catholic by any stretch of the imagination.

To a point, I am opposed to any organized religeon, but that's neither here nor there.

The fact remains that the generally accepted intonation of shedhand's post was that the dovetails were wasted on the pope, and even I find that distasteful. As Boban said, if he was thinking of dovetails going into the ground being a waste, it would have taken a few seconds to clear that up. He didn't, and appropriately got canned for it.

I live in Japan, have done for nearly 4 years now. If you don't have thick skin, it gets torn open pretty qickly here.

    What was he expecting anyway?
I'm, not the least bit religeous but it had to be appropriate for the occassion with respect for the fact that it was the catholic community's leader. If not the dovetails, then would Shedhand prefer some MDF and a Supercheap Autos nail gun ?
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

Well I reckon it all ties in with what we have mostly been talking about today.

    That is, give a break.

To me, that means that us "old time" members of the board should perhaps try and adopt 's even handedness and try and steer "miscreants" along the "one true path".

If this is perceived as being an "old fart mafia" by some newcomers, well I'm sure that's not the intent, but I reckon that it IS up to us old stagers who reckon we know what the board means to be a bit more proactive.

    Again, my 0.05 cents.

    Craig
