    Default port barrel

    A workmate just gave me a 20 litre wooden port barrel the only trouble is it is in pieces as he let it dry out, all the hoops fell off and nothing was holding the wood together:eek:
    has any one here ever put a port barrel together as i need some advice please

    Coopering is the art of making wooden barrels (made by coopers). A Google search should turn up some info for you.

    I guess the barrels were made by precisely fitting each stave to its neighbour so, unless your staves are numbered, it's going to be a bit like fitting a jigsaw together. Perhaps you might be able to match up marks or scratches.

    i reckon it is going to take awhile and test my patients but i wll have a go at matching the staves and see how it turns out

    None of those half baked assistance deals:eek:

    Just send me the barrel in parts, the port in a suitable container and I'll assemble it for you, get it so it doesn't leak and install the aforesaid port.

    All in a temperate climate without too much humidity or dryness

    I'll have it ready for leaking.....ah sealed and ready for you to drink the next batch in no time

    You can PM me and I'll arrange pickup with the transport company
