Slow progress with the spinning wheel but at least its started.

I had David Laird look at the threaded adjustment handle David is master of all things wood threaded at OTGA David offered to have a go (he'd not long repaired a similar wheel).
EDITED ADDED The old adjustment knob was broken you can see where David repaired it by drilling a hole and using peg/turned dowl.

Just needs a sanding, colour finish.

This collar doesn't do much but it was splitting and spreading more so a hose clamp and good soaking in soapy water it will be glued and pinned.

My turn for reproduction this is one of the bobbin/maiden head carriers you can see the old one below.

I have made an attempt to start colouring as a test piece.

Have the hole yet to drill for the leather bobbin carrier.

I think I am on the right track with the ageing process had a couple of cup's of tea and thought about it. It happened before my eyes.

You certainly seem to have a handle on it Ray. Going well!!

Its hard to pick it, especially if it was on its own. Great work Ray - watching this one with interest.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is Hebradian Oak? Or is Hebradian something else?

Sorry for confusion English Oak & a Hebradian Spinning wheel Scottish Islands including the Outer Hebrides or Western Isles of Scotland

Try "Hebridean", as in from the Hebrides (islands just off Scotland).

I've always heard it pronounced heb-rid-ees.

Andrew thanks spelling corrected in our blog here its a bit harder for old posts I did how ever get my original spelling from another blog after checking. Must be the Scotish accent in my head from the family I spent lots of time with when a kid.

Wow didn't think it was that far back my last post on the wheel happenings

Things have been progressing slowly with the restoration much progress has been achieved but still away to go. Most are now small but time consuming repairs.

Having acquired the Nova 3000 helped speed things up only a bit as time on that lathe is very limited as its at the turners club so one day a week for maybe 2 hrs tops. That includes setting up, cleaning up etc.

As some of you know I am making a similar wheel for Sue as I go. It has also come along way. I can say that the majority of timber English Oak has been cut to required sizes. The legs, Maiden towers, Wheel uprights, base, tension adjuster parts, spindles for legs and spokes.

Pics are old and new tension adjuster block, one of the 3 legs, one of the 12 spokes for the main wheel.
