First Project
Hi all
Well I have nearly finished my first furniture making project, I started off with a TV corner unit that we were not able to sell or even give away because it looks like everyone has a big flat screen these days and the hole for the TV was to small.
So I decided to pull it apart to feed my new hobby, then my daughter asked me to make her a bookcase and I thought here is my chance to start my first project.
As you can see below the TV corner unit was quite nice but we had it for around 10 years and no one wanted it so I took it apart, after that I thought, how am I going to make this bookcase being new to woodworking and not having a table saw or table router so I asked the almighty internet .
After looking through the net I found a great join which I am sure is not new to most on this site called the pocket hole, So I went and bought myself a jig and wow it worked like a charm.
hopefully tomorrow I will buy the finished colour "antique white" and the next pics will be the finished product in my daughters room full of books.

Wow, nice work there mate. Shame about the tv unit but as you said, tv's have definately changed and i'll be ripping mine down in the not too distant future to make way for a newer tv as well. Never used the pocket holes myself but have seen the jigs for them, looks like they work out quite well.
Congrats on the finished project too!
Paul.

Thanks Sandow
the best thing is I only used half the material from the old TV unit so there is plenty left, recycling at its best

Great work, Bucks, and excellent reuse of materials. Were the panels solid pine or veneered chipboard/MDF?

Nice bit of recycle. You have a tough crowd to please. Inspecting the shelf bottom with a mirror! Thats going too far.
Cheers, Bill

Thanks guys
Sloth, the original cabinet was made of a mix of veneered chipboard and solid pine, I used the pine panels and pine tongue and groove for the book case, I did have to buy the top from Bunnings but that only cost me $9, I will figure out another use for the chipboard.
Ball Peen, got my daughter to prime it she even painted under the shelves but I am not complaining as I would sooner make it than paint it

That's the way. Well done on the recycle. Better to be used then to land fill.
Now on to the next project.
