Default A big public thank you to

What a fabulous time we had at the CWWWS this weekend.

It was a weekend of unexpected treats.

I invited over as I was asking a bunch of ignorant and pretty stupid questions in the turning forum. You know, I honestly thought I was doing OK....I had READ BOOKS and watched YouTube videos and even turned half a dozen bowls.

Well, wasn't I put right. In being I was 180 degrees wrong. Not just slightly. But completely.

DaveTTC, WoodTherapy and Trav joined us. So our merry band of 4 proceeded to have our ignorance reduced by an unquestioned master of the art. At the end of the night I had developed an aneurism due to the forced inflow of such abundant learning.

Up came the next round... Saturday night we did it again! DaveTTC, WoodTherapy, Delbs and I with . Each night was a 7 to 11pm cerebral thrashing and hands on learning on the Dark Arts of turning.

I posted this in the Gereral section as we covered off more than turning. I wanted a public means of thanking for 2 very memorable nights of incredible learning and being regaled with fantastic stories from within the industry.

Truely, is a guru and wonderful teacher. I have been enlightened and thank him profusely for the hints, advice and corrections he made for my mates and I (and new mate DaveTTC).

If you ever get the chance or offer to learn from , just do it. Don't think, or hesitate, just do it.

Also, many thanks to Jim of CWS. I am now the very proud owner of many fine finishes, tools and papers, but especially a "new" sharpening system in the form of a CBN wheel and Woodcraft TruGrind (suggested by and sold by Jim with great enthusiasm). The CBN grinding wheel is a miracle. Just buy one.

I 2nd that. I wasn't fortunate enough to be there both nights but the night that was there I learnt a load about 'proper turning' as calls it because me and davettc were talking pen turning

If you guys are in town again let us know and I'd be happy to host as well so it's not all on Evan and Evans awesome wife ( was like royalty with the food and coffee seriously) and next time I'll have a honing stone to sort out my grinding wheel

Dave would be great to talk shop with ya again and pens. Would like to see more of how you operate. Seems to be a lot quicker than My setup.

I don't have as much experience as Evan turning bowls so i was essentially starting from scratch. So learnt a tonne of useful info and am now hooked can't wait to get some blanks to start on bowls.
Here is the master himself and Ev learning in the 2nd pic

So you guys mentioned pen tuning to , did he tell you to wash your mouths, or was he being ultra polite?
    Regards

Hmm, it would be impolite to report the exact words, but it was very clear it was a foul, misborn creature that deserved death.

I like the idea of pen turning, but I kept my mouth closed. Delbs and DaveTTC Didn't hesitate

Good on you guys! What a wonderful opportunity for you all. You are learning from one of the best turners, oh! and is not a bad bloke either.
