    Default Push stick design

Reading a thread this morning sent a shiver down my spine, it mentioned something about cutting your fingers off on a bandsaw

So I thought everytime I use my pushstick on the bandsaw there is always a final spurt as the last bit of timber passes the blade, and my pushsticks have quite a few knicks to show for this problem.

So I'm thinking about a pushstick that has something like a sword guard along the stick so the hand cannot be injured.

Anyone already designed or made anything along these lines, could also be useful on the table saws when guard has been removed perhaps.

    G'day,
I bought a pushstick gadget from Rockler for two tenths of bu66er all a while ago which has an aluminium pusher in a plastic handle with a rare earth magnet to hold it onto the saw casing. It works well!!

    Default Push Stick Gripper

Although I use my pushstick more for the table saw, I can use it for the band saw for most cuts. It is pretty well known, the Microjig Gripper. Available locally for $110 from www.northwoodtools.com.au

I have stopped shivering now that I think of that outcome as being "Digitally Remastered", just doesn't seem so scary.

I think the problem with the bandsaw is that it's so "safe" that one works with one's hands much closer to the meat cutters than one would otherwise. Hitting a soft patch at the end of a cut is the scariest thought in the world, but I always (I hope) use the push stick/block at an angle so my hand is on the outside of the blade.

I have thought about using the Grippers when freehand cutting, but so far haven't.

    Cheers,

    P
