Default Quarter Sawn and Curly Red Oak Book Case

Here's a pic of a short and wide book case I made for my wife. The frame is made from quarter sawn red oak and the back is curly red oak. Amazingly all the timber came from the same butt log. Once I realized it was curly, I quartered half the log for ray fleck and flat sawed the other half for book matching. The wife really likes this book case. Finish is two coats clear gloss oil based poly to pop the grain and 5 top coats of clear gloss water based poly to protect the wood.

    Thanks

    Thumbs up

Very nice. I like the 'specky' sort of pattern that goes half along the base and up the sides, shame it didn't continue all the way round, but thats just my taste (which I'm told often sucks) :P :P

I'd buy it, very nice, well done!

The specky pattern / quarter sawn ray flecks do make it all the way around the face, it's just I'm a bad picture taker the camera flash is hiding them.

Thanks - I also think it turned out nice

Beautifull Jeff. Well done. I really like Oak of any description. The quarter sawn pattern came out quite irregular, nice.

Very nice piece of furniture Jeff. Your use of the bookmatching and flecks is attractive.

Nice one Jeff. Pretty spectacular figure in the timber too.
