Default A general question about using plywood

    Hi All
I have been reading quite a bit of FWW and in many articles they seem to use plywood either completely or as the structural frame. What sort of plywood do people use, any suggestions or recommendations, also what sort of money should I be expecting to pay for a 2400x1200x18mm sheet.

    Thanks

If you go to the mister plywood website and click on Pricing you can get an idea of the cost of different types of plywood

the yanks use lotsa plywood as its cheap there, its not cheap here also there isn't much variety here.
So we tend to use timber veneered mdf instead

Not really, mdf can sag a fair bit... but with good design it can be got around.
Solid wood is a better option than mdf.

I am no expert but as JMB says check out MR Ply and Wood.

I have only just found them on the Gold Coast, they have been here for seven years. ( Thanks to this forum for giving me the heads up. )

They have all sorts of ply and ,on the Gold Coast , at least give fabulous service. The machinist there, is one of the part owners of the franchise, and because I have bought a few 2400 x1200 sheets there recently and told him what I wanted to do, he became more helpful and showed me all his jigs and router bits, told me what each was for and said that architects and draughtsman used to bring in their plans for special projects like restaurants etc.. and he would come in at 4 am and set up the machines and provide the specifications to their drawings.

Ps. I have just looked at their website and the Gold Coast have a lot more types of plywood and the cost is a lot more competitive then what's on the internet. Personally check out the local costs and better still visit your local branch to see if they are a goer for you.

I have no commercial interest in them but as a small business owner like to acknowledge people who are passionate about what they do. The guys on the Gold Coast fit that bill. Hopefully they do in your area also.

Whilst we were having this conversation, his employees were sitting down having the lunch. he was eating while he was talking to me and showing all of the jigs and routers etc. He was totally enthused that he had found somebody , like me who was interested in all this, that he offered to help me with any problems I encountered.

I buy BC ply from Bretts in Brisbane for $60 for 2.4x1.2, but I found it paid to shop around.

Here's a page which explains the different grades of faces and glues which I found really useful.
    Cheers, Richard

    Thanks Star and Rhancock
For Star, I am in Adelaide and unfortunatley we dont have a Mr Plywood, but I can still look at their prices as a starting point.
