Quick Release Vice won't quick release
G'Day All,
I'm hoping for some assistance to fix my Quick Release Vice which doesn't quick release.
Well it will if I hold the lever on the front of the vice back with a part of pliers, but it should be heaps easier than that to operate.
Something is wrong in the setup and I'd appreciate the assistance to get it working properly.
I've added some photos of the vice in place on my bench.
Thank you in advanced for all and any help.
Cheers, Crowie

I don't have the same vise, but a starting point might be to strip it out, clean off corrosion, and grease up.
That could be the problem

Yeah, i agree. Grease and oil change should get it moving.
May be the lever mounting/pivot that is tight. Those were the droids I was looking for.

I find that the term quick release is perhaps not the way to describe them. It is quick to slide in and out but when tension is on it the leaver will not release the vice unless you back off the tension first. I have to agree with the others about keeping it clean and lubed.
Mine tends to slip a thread when the gunk builds up.
Regards
John

Problem Fixed - Thank you Gents!!
G'Day All,
I removed the vice from the bench to clean and lubricate it as most suggested.
Things went well, but as I was checking the operation after reassembly, it still seemed to not work correctly.
I'd scored the vice a few years back from a "throughout pile", [as it wasn't working correctly], at a local school were I'd done some work.
Anyway, upon closer inspection the "lift bar" was positioned wrongly and not catching on the lever point.
I disassembled & re-assembled it with the "lift bar" on the other side of the lever pivot point and WOW it all works as it should.
Looks like it may have been assembled wrong from new.
Cheers, Crowie
