    Default What is Re-sawing?

    I have heard about this a many times. But what in the world is re-sawing? Is it like rippping on a table saw?

    It just means sawing a thick board into 2 or more thinner boards. Generally done with a bandsaw.

    craigs right - mostly done on large powerful bandsaws so larger sections can be accomodated.

    in fact I often wonder if say a Carbatec (or similar eg jet or hammer etc) 2Hp 17 inch units have enough grunt to do resawing with large section hardwood timebrs... i've done it on 21 inch 3 phase units with 1 inch thick blades on beech which is relatively soft and it still smoked up.... more grunt mate, more grunt....

    My single phase 18" saw can do it pretty comfortably, but I have to feed s.l.o.w.l.y...

    Also, basically, think of resawing as ripping, but along the wider axis of the board. (ie wood flipped on its side).

    I often resaw, which is O.K. if you cut it too long the first time, but a complete disaster if you cut it too short!
    Is that what is meant by measure twice cut once?
