Re-sizing Door To Fit
I need opinions on an old wooden front door that is in good condition but slightly too small for the frame.
It needs a strip about 30mm thick on the horizontal.Should I glue this on the top or bottom?
The vertical edge also needs a thin strip to fit. Which would be better - glue on hinge edge or outside edge?
thanks
Dereg

Six of one and half a dozen of the other I reckon. maybe I would put the horizontal strip at the bottom, you could always disguise it with a weather strip. Maybe, on second thoughts I would put the vertical strip closest to the hinge, Its not going to show anyway if you paint the door.
Reality is no background music.

Assuming I had no other options than make that door fit, I'd add to the bottom as the seam'd be less visually intrusive there.
As for the vertical strip, it really depends on the door hardware. Are you reusing the original latch? If so, packing out that edge probably isn't a good idea. I'd go with the hinges side...

If the door is subject to weather I would put it on the top so as to alleviate any problems with moisture getting in between the timber and the door and creating rot.
As the others say for the vertical strip on the hinge side but use longer screws in the hinge.

Hi dereg
Another option if it's to be an extenal door. Bunnings or mitre 10 have a weather strip that fits on the bottom of the door with another peice on the floor it requires a min of 25mm, you do not even notice it. about $30-40.

Door problem.
1)Cut the door both vertically and horizontally in the centre.
2) Glue and cramp require sized pieces in - allow for width of saw cut.Effect will be quite stunning deppending on timber used.
3) Ignore this suggestion.

Weather Strip
I'll 2nd what Celeste said.
A "Raven" weather strip at the bottom of the door should fill that gap easily. It works quite well as a weather strip as well.

If a weather strip-only is applied it doesn't help the appearance from the inside ... forgive me if I have completely missed the suggestion .... I am tired
My vote would be for top and hinge-side .... can we see pics of the door please? Or maybe a detailed explanation of the door and the home?Steve
