RE-sizing Plantation Shutters ? Anyone know?
Hi. I'm new here and hope someone will be able to advise if it's possible to re-size plantation shutters.
We can't afford custom-made shutters for our place. But we have the opportunity to buy a house-lot of unwanted (new) shutters. Some of them are reasonably close to our door-sizes. But others would have to be shortened in length by up to 30 or 40 cms.
Does anyone know if it's possible to shorten shutters? Would it be possible to remove the bottom of the shutter, then remove several of the shutter-blades -- then shorten the tilt-rod --- then shorten the wooden sides (frame) of the shutters --- then reattach the tilt-rod to the base (frame) bit, and then reattach the base bit to the sides ?
My husband's an average home-handyman.
The shutters are white. Any scratches etc. caused by the re-sizing could be touched up with paint.
Does anyone know anyone in the Sydney area who is affordable and who would undertake re-sizing and installation ?
Thank you,
Cleo

Check out Australian Woodsmith magazine, I think it was a couple of issues ago, that featured plantation shutters. You may get it at your local library.
