    Default Two recent pieces

I've never posted a Work in Progress as progress is usually slow.
And I've not often posted pics of any thing I've made.
These two pieces were finished in the last year.
The coffee table last October(2021) and bench seat finished today.
I essentially copied the plans for the coffee table from a table I restored for a friend and my wife said she would like one.
The bench seat is essentially my own design.
All shaping of legs and profiles were done by hand with a block plane and spokeshaves.
    Coffee table is Tas Myrtle
Bench seat is Tas Myrtle and Huon Pine. Bench seat legs are angled at 8 degrees
    Sorry about pics being sideways
    cheers

    Frank

I like both, but especially taken with the contrast of the Huon Pine and Myrtle.

    What finish did you use?

    Hi George,
Both pieces are finished with Kunos natural oil sealer. Clear.
I bought a 750ml tin and decanted into 100ml glass bottles.
It seems to last quite well. Is also food safe.

Yes I really like Huon with Tas Myrtle.
Ive used Huon as highlights on some predominantly Tas myrtle pieces before.
This is the first time Ive used a larger section of Huon with smaller amount of Tas Myrtle.
I really like it as well, thanks, and I'll definitely be doing it again.

    Cheers

    Hi Frank,

how much did the Kunos product darken the Huon Pine? The reason being that I have a small project (box) made with Huon Pine that I need a finish for. Your bench seat looks quite light, which is what I am after.

    Hi George,
I've attached a pic of my bench seat when I was doing a dry fit.
I think it shows the Huon in raw state and if you look at the finished pics from previous post you'll see that it doesn't really darken.
But I believe it will darken naturally over time.
I've also attached a second pic of a box I made for my wife in 2009 from Huon which you'll how it may darken over time.
Although this pic does show it a bit darker than it actually is but it has darkened over the 13 years since it was made.
I'm trying to remember what finish I used on it, and can't, but it wasn't Kunos.
Kunos do make finishes that are darker but I used their "clear" finish.

    Hope this helps

    Frank
