Default Is Reciprocating Saw Good for this job?

I have to cut a housing into the top of round posts (to take beam 140 x 45).
This involves cutting down from the top of the post (140mm) - so with the grain and in 45mm at the widest point (across the grain).
I have four of these to cut and the posts are in the ground - so up nearly three metres.

I have tried doing this with a hand saw but it is going to take a long time.

So, would a reciprocating saw be a good tool for this? I haven't used one previously and amongst other things I wonder how much control can be exercised.

    I would appreciate any advice.
    Cheers, Ji

Should be fine for it Ji. They are not the most accurate of saws, and can wander a little. Every gardener should have a recipro.

Just did this on two posts..
They work well for this job as is you mark the two sides of the post, then just cut to that . As the cutting edge is flat you end up with a nice square finish.
The blades, at least on my older well used example wobble sidi to side a bit. To beat this I started off on quite a slow speed to ensure I had the cut in exactly the right spot and level.
One I had the "score" in the post, ramp up the speed and off you go!

    Thanks guys.

I have invested in a cheapie reciprocating saw and it has done the job well.

Great to have ready advice on these things!

    Cheers, Ji
