    Default Recognise anyone.....?

There's an article on the last page of the current issue of Fine WoodWorking (Issue #180). It describes someone that the author chooses to call the wood butcher.

    Listen to these brief excerpts

"...a class of woodworkers who read FWW with all the yearning of the village idiot hopelessly in love with the village beauty, who fondle those photographs of unbelievable masterpieces with longing despair."

"He is not of the home improvement breed who....build lawn furniture from packing crates. His projects are Hepplewhite chairs and Goddard block fronts. He is like the high school art student who copies the Mona Lisa."

"He is an insatiable tool collector, always hoping to find one that will cut cleanly forever without sharpening. He buys tools that he may use once, or not at all, and they litter his too-small workshop."

Sounds pretty pretentious to me..........Now good fellows with our snooty noses stuck high up in the air repeat after me "one cannot produce anything of true value unless one posesses the absolute best of all, set up in a climate regulated studio with manservants on tap" that is why we shall always remain the better class artists.

It was a new subsrciption. I certainly hope they catch up, and give better service than this.

Fear not. The same happened when I first subscribed, but they quickly caught up & the service has been good since. On one or two occasions when an issue has gone astray, an email has had a replacement sent by airmail straight away.
