    Default Recommended Instructional Material

    Hi,

    I'm a musician and I recently built one of the StewMac ukulele kits. The process has got me interested in more general aspects of woodwork, not just those related to instrument making.

    I'm primarily interested in small-scale work using hand tools.

    I've been having a look at all the instructional DVDs that are available. While there seems to be a great selection available, most are about particular techniques (i.e. how to cut a particular joint, sharpen a tool, etc.).

    Are there any instructional DVDs that take you through a project from start to finish and that are suitable for a relative beginner? I'd also be interested in hearing about any project-based books that people would recommend.

    For small scale work you might get an answer here but my money is that the guys in the TOY area of this forum might be a better starting point. They do a lot of scale modeling so are used to working on a small scale project but with quality the goal.

    It is not only Toys that they do but the techniques are the same. We have got quite a few talented people there and some of them are from the global community. If you made one of Stu mac's Musical instrument then I think you might appreciate a global influence rather then an insular domestic one.

    Ask the question there as well as what you have done here.
