    Default recycled timber table

just finished this table on the weekend. I have been making this while working on my other post (the removal of the big rusty bolts from the iron bark bridge timbers)

the top of this table is made from vic ash removed from the internal lining of what was apparently a 100yr old stable. It was hand sawn so of varying thickness

legs are undercarriage are made of off-cuts from the recycled iron bark bridge timber

    2.5mt long, 96cm wide

    heavy of course

    Like the 4th image.
Did not realize you were so young and small.

With the table top flush between the legs like that, do you envisage any problems with expansion over time?

What said. Not a good idea.

    Nice work though.

    Nice looking table.

Any movement is likely to be shrinkage if the table is going indoors.
And if its living in a high humidity area and it wants to swell, a little gap between the top and the leg to keen an eye on and you could whip the top off and give it a trim.
There are sort of rules you can build by that have been traditionally stuck to over time ,and then the rules can be thrown out the window and it comes down how you look and think about the piece.

Look at wooden acoustic guitars , A wooden time bomb waiting to go off !! Build them and treat them the way they were designed to be treated and they last a good amount of time.

I love seeing things designed for movement that work , big sliding dove tails in German trunk tops is one thing that comes to mind.
I rented a table to a guy for ten months over a cold winter once . the heating was cranked right up, he was trying to sell the property the table was in.
when I got it back there was a 4 to 5 mm gap in the center join that I watched close up over the months when I got it back.
