Cedar Table
G'day Bench1holio and welcome to our world.
Opinions on this will vary. My son has a beautiful Red Cedar table (seats 8-10 ). He finished it with sanding sealer and a satin Estapol. Gorgeous!
A Danish oil finish would also be good.
My personal opinion is that you should steer away from high gloss finishes. Aim for a nice lustre.

I would go with Weisy on this. A 2 pack floor finish will give it a bit of protection from dings and scratches.

Or a combination of the above!
Best finish I have seen on cedar was done 40 years ago and it still looks good. It was a 2 or 3 coats of two-pack Estapol, followed by 2 or 3 coats of danish oil rubbed in with steel wool. The finish looks like very good french polishing but is also very durable - not sensitive to heat, alcohol and all the other french polish woes.
There is (or was) a detailed description of the technique on the Wattyl danish oil can.
Cheers
Graeme
