    Default Red Mallee Burl Bowl

Made this for my nieces house warming.
Handy for all those tv remotes.
Has no finish on it but elbow grease.
Bottom was turned flat before carving centre out.
    38x30 cm

Very nice bowl. Will you be putting a finish on it?

I don't think I will put a finish on it.
I sanded it up to 4000 grit and its nice and shiny (not super shiny).
I'll ask a few people to have a look at it as is and show them a nitro finish and see what they think, because if I make the choice I know it will be wrong one.
    Happens every time.

I'd be tempted to put an oil on it to show up the colour, but scared it will go to dark and lose the red to a dirty brown.
The Nitro won't do that but it will dull it down as mine is a 50/50 satin.

I originally put up an animated GIF but the forum converted it to a single jpg on me.

Looking at the picture it looks like a turtle, why does it look like a turtle??

See it is so easy to mistype something and then someone picks up on it and there you have it.

I am going to look at this mishap as a positive perspective, at least it got FenceFurniture to reply.

Maybe try a spot under the base with some Rustins DO in one place and some Traditional wax in another? The wax will be the least colour changer (and can be removed the easiest with white spirits).

You are indeed correct Christos. I was just going to leave it as a "like" but it was too hard to resist.

Trouble is the bottom is still white sapwood.
There's no red under there to check it with.
The reason I was going to go with NCL was because of the bark thats still all around the outside, it would have held it together a little.
    Can't wax that.

OK you've talked me into it.
I'll NCL the outside, the base and bark.
And I'll wax the inside, that won't change the colour and can polish up just as nice with that little bit of protection.

    Thanks Peter
