Default Red Wood Slab Coffee table

    Gday all,

Have just completed my first solid slab based coffee table a few days ago. I learned a lot about preparation and finishing in the process, also my first attempt using oils and wax.
The finish in my opinion really brings out the beauty and character of the wood, though the sheen lacks a bit lustre i had hoped for, Any tips on getting a better lustre would be greatly appreciated.
The leg design is based on an idea i had using angles and triangles. The legs are made from red iron bark, I think the slab is of the same timber (not sure).

Anyways i will post a few pics. Any comments are welcome good or bad.

    Cheers, Dave.

    Default Slab coffee tables

I had a few made for me when I was working oversea out of local timbers. I bought them home to be a reminder of my time there. The legs were made out of branches from the same species and were left in their natural state but finished in a clear 'varnish'. I'm not suggesting that your legs don't look good but I feel that the natural ones added to the overall aesthetics of the tables as a piece of furniture.

    Love it!

I dont know how much more gloss you will get with oils and wax, I suspect a varnish, or poly or shellac may be needed.

Very nice. Can you take a picture as to how the legs are attached?

Thanks guys for the positive comments . I might try another buff up with wax to see if it makes a difference with the shine.
Will take a pic of the underneath, its not a pretty site as i didnt do much work to improve the rough state in which i bought the slab.

    Cheers guys.
