Redgum Fence gone grey (only 3 years old)
I have a redgum post & rail fence, approx 3 years old which is now Grey in colour. I applied decking oil 2 years ago (can't rember the product) . What product can I use to bring out the natural colour again?.
I've been told use Organoil, not sure whether to use the "Standard" or "Jarrah" colour?

Hello .... you would need to re-apply oil every 6-12 months to keep the colour. There are products available from Bunnings that can be used to clean up decks (or fence in your case) and that should get rid of the grey ..... after that it will need a regular oiling.

Yes I have heard of Organoil but never used the decking products .... only the internal finishes.
I would be inclined to go for the clear. From my experience the Jarrah colour is just a stain and does little to improve the look of the timber. I have used an external jarrah oil designed for use on outdoor furniture and it really didn't do it for me.
I would still go for a deck restoring product before applying the new protecting oil. If you put oil on the grey timber it will end up going black.

Everything goes grey in the sun, look at me Im only 29, but because I work in the sun Ive gone grey.
Well.....what little hair I have has gone grey, the sun has also aged me about 22 years so I look more like a 51 year old.
Cruel, cruel world.

To remove the grey now, you will have to wash it with oxalic acid solution or one of a number of proprietary timber cleaners. It will be a big job requiring elbow grease. After it is cleaned coat it with a UV stable product. Oil won't slow the greying down too much, and I don't think organoil is for exterior use.
My recommendation for a product is spa-n-deck (I know this is the second post today I've made about it - I have no affiliation). It's extremely durable and application is easy (brushed on straight after you've cleaned, ie, while the wood is still wet)
Cheers
Michael
