I have decided I do not wish to work with them but don't want to see them burn up either. Out of curiosity what would be a fair price in case anyone was interested? I am getting approx. 40 stumps replaced and I imagine the usable part would vary from 500-700mm.

The Stumps.
Hi all,
You don't mention how long they are, but I wood be putting new Cement Stumps beside them, as it wood give you greater strength, to you home.
Yes, if they are already out, pull out the High Pressure Washer, & that will certainly clean them.Regards,
issatree.

Hand planer
Rather than wet them with a pressure wash.... or use a wire brush, what you could do is use a electric hand plane - one with the disposable blades, and just skim the outside to get all the dust and dirt etc off... back to clean wood - then put them over machines...
At least you'll be able to see the grain before you decide which way to rip them etc and any missed nails or stones etc will only chip a throwaway hand electric planer blade or two.
If you have a couple packets of replaceable throwaway blades - it doesn't matter how many you go thru to clean the wood up before using it.
Just a suggestion.
