Default How to rejoin a Linisher sanding Belt

My Linishing sanding belt broke. I have 2 spares on shelf stored for years.
Mounted the first spare and in 5 sec the spicing tape came off.
2nd old stock belt works fine.

Q is how do I glue back the splicing tape? Tried "Superglus industrial" but won't stick.

Buy a new one I have attempted this on many occasions, with many different methods, all have been a waste of time, you can purchase specialised tape for this, very expensive cheaper just to replace the belt.

Seems not much has changed with sanding belts. Way back in the 1980's we found the same issues with Makita belt sander belts. Bit hit and miss, some survive, the vast majority don't. Storing spares for long periods is not a great idea.

    Unhappy

It's a pain when it happens but like the rest have said its best just to buy a new one. Not all is lost however as they can be cut up for hand sanding or stretched out on a flat surface for lapping.

Thanks China, Mobyturns and orraloon for your replies.

Of course, I prefer buying new belts.

(But there are some on the web teaching people how to make their own Linisher belt.
One says to use CA Glue on cloth backing, another says to use Contact Adhesive on cloth backing + Epoxy at the seams and another says Industral (construction) adhesive on a cloth another sells "Sanding belt splicing tape" but only in USA.)

As others have said, don't waste your time, buy some new belts. Glue the broken belts to lengths of thick ply about 300mm long and make some sanding boards. I found pva glue works well.

I will be buying new belts but what happens if I cannot get belts of the correct length anymore?

Many years ago I could not get a rubber O-ring belt of the correct size for my special Drill Press that has Drum sanders moving up and down when rotating.
No glue worked well. But then I used a long staple to join a cut O-ring and that worked.
Idea came from how the the leather belt of mum's Singer Sewing machine was joined.

Pretty much any Abrasives supplier in the country will will provide belts of any length.
Replacing an o-ring type belt is a simple matter of purchasing a length of polyurethane belt the correct size and joining it by heating the ends and fusing together, I have done more times than I can remember, again there are many suppliers that provide belts made to any size you require.

    This tape: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001221351792.html

This glue: ADHESIVE DUALL 88 CEMENT 500ML

In a pinch, this tape also works under the first tape: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32622031350.html

This stuff is.... unbelievable. It will stick, forever, to anything. Do NOT get your placement wrong, there is NO ability to correct errors. It forms a bond that defies belief.

Does the bond come from the adhesive or the tape?

Is there anything else useful you use that adhesive for?
