Removing finish from an old Radiogram
Hi All,
Well it seems that Shane is AWOL with the demise of Dingo Blue so I have a quick question to throw out to you all.
Last weekend I picked up an old radiogram (no insides, only the shell) for $55 at an auction. It's pretty beat up and I thought it would be a perfect restoration project.\
Now, I suspect it is veneered, so I was wondering what grade of sandpaper should I use to remove the old finish without damaging the veneer underneath?
Thanks in advance
p.s. You can see pics of this eyesore, uh, beuooooooooootiful piece at http://www.woodworkbooks.com/restoration/

Just leaving to pick up the first batch from the printer. Taking them to Wagga Wagga this weekend. Will be available as of next Monday unless you're at Wagga.
Cheers - Neil
PS I would be using a good stripper and not sanding. But that's just me.KEEP A LID ON THE GARBAGE... Report spam, scams, and inappropriate posts, PMs and Blogs.

Further to that, what brand is "a good stripper" (other than the obvious )

Sorry for the delay, been away at a very long turning weekend.
I prefer to use Haymes. The only readily Aussie product. If you can't get it then pretty much any other will do. I'm not too keen on the so called "green strippers" (environ mentally friendly) I have found that most are very slow working and not really as effective as the regular type.
They certainly didn't leave me with a warm inner glow and a feeling that I had just saved the environment from imminent disaster. You can do that by disposing of waste from the regular stripper thoughtfully and not sending it down the drain.
Cheers - Neil

Yup.
Had a minor set back with the first print run which we now have. the printers computor crunched some of the words together in headings, overprinting them. Will have to get anorher run done this week.KEEP A LID ON THE GARBAGE... Report spam, scams, and inappropriate posts, PMs and Blogs.

Bummer about the printers, Neil. I'll order one today, but if you could hold off shipping until you get the "good" version
