I have always carried a pocket knife since I was 6, well ok 7, at 6 I carved up mums screen door and lost it for a year, so thats normally the first line of attack, just take out the offending area and wrap with tape if the bleeding doesn't stop or you might put blood on the job. It can be electrical tape, masking tape, duct tape, rag, etc. Real men just don't use bandaids!!

When I was a kid we used Magnaplasm 'to draw splinters and pus. Others swore by Antiflagestin. Needles tweezers and pocket knives were used by all ofthe tough blokes.
Since found an easy way to avoid getting splinters - I've stopped scratching my head.

You don't like the Sponge Bob strips?

Magnaplasm! Now there's an old-school remedy with a great name. Always sounded to me like it should do something a lot more impressive than it does. Works wonders though...
I recall as a splinter-prone kid chopping the firewood, mum would prefer the pin technique whereas dad preferred the pocket knife. Either way I quickly learned to deal with them on my own.
