Removing stain
My wife and I have just moved in our new house. It has nice stained kitchen cabinet but it's not in a neat condition. It's greasy and grimy. Around the knobs there are 'pimply' grime.
What we'd like to do is to strip clean the stain and dirt to the bare, and apply new stain. We don't know much about woodworking, so we tried sanding with fine sandpaper on for a start on a small area to see how it went. We got the surface nice and smooth but the stain's still there. I asked a carpenter who came to fix something in the house. He said it's going to be hard to remove the 'pimply' grime, and suggested a paint over.
I am hoping someone could help me with simple step by step on what to do and what I need. Thanks
