not if you want to put it on the INSIDE of the belt I know plenty that would hold from the outside, particularly if you apply several layers, but that would probably result in a reduction of the abrasive properties of the belt . Yes it is getting late, isnt it?

The dude in the recommendations area says he uses it for such repairs. I might give it a crack.

I'm pretty tired of belts breaking. The cynic in me smells a conspiracy!

Yeah, about 2am is my limit too. If I haven't found an opportunity to make one last stupid internet comment for the night by then I just go to bed anyway.

Given time just sitting in the waiting room belts come unstuck!!!

We can make cars that routinely go 300k. Space materials that last in the coldest, hottest and most extreme radioactivity and work for years. Thermal and hydrophobic properties that defy belief and materials that work at the bottom of the Marianas Trench or Venus.....

Yet every sanding belt in existence lasts 25% of its abrasive life.

You bet I think it's a conspiracy.

Imagine if car tires spontaneously and routinely delaminated while driving....or some other glued material failure occurred ...such as car bodies, clothing, bathroom tiles or your Titebond. Touch mobile phone screens delaminated after 15 minutes use. Huge slabs of building glass fell off skyscrapers with a "of well, it's just the way it is".

It's entirely unacceptable and a huge trade practices issue.

We SHOULD make a big stink over this.

Out of curiosity, what brand of belt are you using?
We use Sia on the wide belt sander and Norton on the handheld at work and only had one wide belt failure in two years, never broken the Nortons.

One of the 'internet solutions' for broken belts is Gorilla Glue. YMMV.

Originally an AEG BS and now a Festool BS75 all with the 75x533 belts.

The AEG was humungously powerful and if one used 40 grit belts, it simply stripped the drive belt. The Festool is much better, especially with the whale-baleen-height cage and throttle.

I don't do any 40 grit anymore, it all goes into the Thickness Sander (a CarbaTec model that's a few years old. WoodTherapy (aka "Brett") grabbed for me) using slow speed light passes of 60 or 80 grit. The TS has revolutionised my prep of things such as side tables, flat surfaces and box making. After the TS I move straight to ROS at 120 and up. Super quick and amazing to get stock "just right".

To the question: Norton and Festool belts (now). There is another brand I can't recall right now, but it would have been what was sold at Bunnings (may they die).
