    Default resawn veneer onto plywood

I have a piece of jarrah veneered 19mm plywood that is too dark for my project. My plan is to resaw some jarrah of a more suitable colour, dress it back to about 1mm and apply it to the plywood. I am not sure of the best technique to use here given the thickness of the veneer. Should I butt joint the veneer then glue it onto the ply, or go right ahead and glue each piece of veneer straight onto the ply. Also, given that both sides of the ply have been jarrah veneered is it necessary to re veneer the back side with the thicker veneer.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Krenov does this a bit and I think he uses it at about 1/8" thick and cuts dovetails in it and all.
Given that the substrate is the same species and hpeefullt sawn the same way (ie one not quarter sawn) then I would but join your veneers till you have enough width to cover your substrate and glue right on.

The only problem I see is applying clamping pressure to the veneer whilst gluing.

Do you have a press or something?

    Thanks Ross.

Ron, the substrate is just under 2 metres x 517mm. My plan is to use cauls as I don't have a press or vacuum bag. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Issue 137 September 08 of American Woodworker has a good article on resawn veneer tabletops. It is probably still in the shops so you can browse it to see if it is of interest.

Another piece of ply or MDF slightly larger and lots of sandbags or bricks or roof tiles would work
