Default Retaining wall against a fence

    Hello
Am looking to build a timber retaining wall directly against a timber fence.
So far have dug the post holes and have posts and treated pine sleepers but there is not enough room between the proposed retaining wall and the existing timber fence to secure the bolts without great difficulty - drilling the holes is also difficult without moving tonnes of dirt -> any suggestions?

I assume you're planning on putting the sleepers on the fence side of timber posts? If so, you could simply use coach screws (galv or s/s) through the posts and into the sleepers. Not as "permanent" as using coach bolts but they'll do the job.

IMHO you'd be better off spending the money to buy the steel I-beam type posts instead. They're a bit more pernickety to set up (every one has to be nicely plumb and aligned) but once done you can simply cut the sleepers to length and drop the ends into the channels. No fasteners required.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.
