    Default REVIEW: Ryobi AP13 Planer/Thicknesser

    Hi folks,

I have just put this review up online.
    www.onlinetoolreviews.com

This is the Ryobi Planer/Thicknesser that can be found at Bunnies among other places for around $499

Pretty good machine for the price, although it doesn't have some of the more useful features of the more expensive machines, however, the results were more than acceptable.

Grrrr! I bought the old AP12 years ago and it had indexed blades (= non resharpenable) and no top rollers and it cost me $750.00 tax exempt (=$915 tax inc.). Looks like you get more machine for about half the price now.

    Yeah tell me about it!
Half the machines I bought 2 years ago are now several hundred cheaper.

How is your AP12 going? Still strong?
And do you still have easy access to replacement blades? (just out of interest).

The AP 12 only gets occasional use now, if I need to thickness timber on site. I have a big 15" cast iron monster that does most of the work. The AP 12 is still okay, I last bought blades about 2 years ago - no problems then. It did have a fairly major breakdown while still under warranty, The chains and sprockets that drive the feed rollers got packed with so much dust & shavings that the chain seized up and broke. I was blowing the machine out with compressed air during operation, but obviously not enough. Compared to the 15" thicknesser it is a bit of a toy but I can't complain as it paid for itself on its first job.
