Problems Ripping Mitres/Bevels
Hi All
I purchased a 2003 Jet 10' Contractor style saw a few months back, I got it for $800 which included a add on router table and router. After a lot of hours spent squinting at a ruler I got the blade 90 degrees to the mitre slot and the fence set up is adaquate.
So with ripping and cutting at 90 degrees sorted I have turned my attention to cutting mitres and ripping bevels. What a nightmare!!!
Cross cutting mitres has been sorted as I made myself two sleds, one for cutting with the blade at 90 and one for 45 degrees but.....
Putting the fence on the left hand side of the table and with the blade tilted to the right I run into a number of problems.......
1. The blade insert that came with the saw should allow the blade to go the full 45 degrees....it does not! I popped a 45 degree triangle under the blade to make sure and it hits the throat insert.
Solution - I made my own throat insert that is wider to allow the blade to go the full 45....
So I line the fence up and start cutting (very nerveous due to my hands beeing a tad close to the blade than I would like!
Whilst cutting I feel the blade digging in and ends up burning on the exit......weird because in the 90 degree position the blade set up is perfect!!!
When lining up all my pieces and putting together a mitred/beveled box the gaps are there for all to see.....
Very frustrated!!
As mentioned when I cut 90 degrees the set up is perfect, lay the blade over to 45 and she cuts terribly!
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Sounds like you'll need to adjust the trunnions (providing it uses them of course).
Sign up for free at Table Saw Alignment: Registration (don't worry about spam, I'm yet to see a single bit from them or otherwise) and check out the Trunnion Alignment article. It's a great site for setting up and aligning a saw and that article describes pretty much the problems you're having and how to rectify it. Hopefully it will help.
